cm fork with 19.5cm knife, off-set in dark walnut or rosewood handles with steel ferrules, so that they nest
together for ease of transport and storage in the knapsack. Knife ricasso has Landers, Frary, & Clark maker's
hallmark. L.F.&C. is best known to WWI collectors, but this firm began in 1862 and lasted just a bit longer than 100
years. II

Tinned iron shaving cup has removable tray and razor holder. 11.5cm tall and 8cm diameter. Flat soldered seam
construction. A collector has completed the display by adding a period straight razor and shave cream brush. Gray age
patina on the exterior; a few rust spots on the interior including some pinhead size holes in the base.. so shave fast. As
our dear friend and master auctioneer Richard Mosely used to say about perforated vessles of all sorts: "Don't worry
folks, it'll still hold coal." Great for an officer's personal items display. II-

Attractive martial theme thermoplastic union case holds two sixth-plate tintypes with military theme patriotic brass
mats. Both are Federal soldiers wearing four-button sack coats and forage caps, with Corporal rank chevrons clearly
visible on one of them. They appear to have a bit of family resemblance. The previous owner noted that he
discovered the set at an estate auction in Orange County, Indiana, but was never able to confirm a name. II

Yellowed white covered cork pith helmet has ventilation cap and original chinstrap. Obverse was pierced for a small
insignia which is no longer present. Interior retains ~20% of the green fabric interior visor lining, has spacers and the
skeleton of the sweatband, but the leather sweatband is nearly all gone. Exterior has stains and what appears to be
paint on one side. Still, a scarce early American sun helmet, and if you can use the right profile (the one without the
paint and stain), it will look fine on a display shelf. Cork remains good with no soft spots or dents. III

Model 1873 'Trowel' bayonet has blued steel socket with crisp twist and lock attachment mechanism, blade finished
bright. Has a bit of light surface rust on the socket and a few minor age blemishes on the blade, very good overall.
Patent markings on the side of the socket, "PAT APR 16=72". The wooden dowel attachment appears to be
new-made and its retaining pin will not seat all the way into the slot. Comes with a first style scabbard that is missing
the brass tip and, despite a collector's efforts to 'preserve' it with some sort of magic potion, has shrunk and developed
quite a bit of bloom on the belt loop. A fine example of a bayonet emblematic of the sometimes strange experiments
with field equipment that were going on during this period. Bayonet II / Scabbard III

Broad fullered blade is nice with just a hint of very light 'salt and pepper' pitting in spots. Second pattern brass guard
has "U.S. / SPRINGFIELD" stamp on one side; "2698" accountability number on the reverse. Has good ribbed wood
grip. Black leather scabbard has "WATERVLIET ARSENAL" markings on the brass belt hook. Leather is
Pecard-free, remains good and solid, with the expected creasing and wear at the junction of the hook attachment and
back of the scabbard as is normally the case; reverse of the hook has adhesive residue from an old collector's ID label.
Nice example, II

Broad fullered blade remains in nice condition with minimal age blemishes. First pattern steel guard has "U.S. /
SPRINGFIELD" stamp on one side; "89" accountability number on the reverse. Has good ribbed wood grip. Black
leather scabbard has Rock Island Arsenal markings on the brass belt hook and some adhesive residue from a collector's
label. Leather remains good and solid, Pecard-free. Scabbard is a first model that has been converted to utilize the
brass belt hook when that system was introduced. There were only approximately 1000 of the steel guard M1880
knives produced, compared to over 5000 of the later brass guard versions. Nice example, and a scarce knife. II
