Private purchase enlisted tunic of blue-gray hectgrau wool has inset upper and waist pockets with exterior
Austrian-style scalloped pocket flaps, concealed button front closure, stand-fall collar has red silk zig-zag edge trim and
silver bullion embroidered collar star insignias. Left side has red and white braided cord whistle lanyard attached under
the collar, with a small metal whistle on the end that tucks into the left upper pocket. Steel gray silk lining has some
sewn repairs, one of which is likely the work of a recent caretaker of this uniform. Through a small hole in the
pocket lining, we found and extracted two small "Gott Strafe England" patriotic stamps which now remain with the
uniform. Uniforms includes a hectgrau wool rogatywka cap, with squared crown, obverse has silver metal Polish eagle
and Amazon shield insignia with Strzelcy "S" designation (riflemen). Cap has folding neck cape with two small domed
silvered metal buttons securing it in the front, and single-ply black leather visor which is painted gray on the interior.
Cap lining and sweatband is gray cotton cloth with quilted top portion. Cap and tunic remain in excellent overall
condition with only a few small pinholes, a bit of light wear in the back of the collar, and the previously mentioned
small hole and sewn repair in the coat lining. Over the years we were fortunate enough to handle a few caps, but those
pale in comparison to this set. Very rare, II+

pattern Infantry officer's saber made just before the war by Weyersberg, Kirschbaum & Companie in Solingen;
essentially a 1909 pattern shashka with a metal scabbard in the style of the M1909 Cavalry officer's saber. 94.5cm
overall, with 80.5cm curved blade with one broad and two narrow fullers. Blade is in excellent polish, finished bright,
with just the slightest hint of scabbard wear and a few surface fingerprints. Has acid-etched ornamentation forward of
the ricasso on both sides surrounding an open inscription panel that was left blank and never personalized. Ricasso has
"
WK&Cie / Solingen" maker's stamp. Brass hilt retains much of it's original fire gilt finish, has brown ribbed
composition grip, single knuckle bow style with open ring finial on the counterguard, cast with acanthus leaf
ornamentation prominent on the pommel. The outward face of the pommel has an oval ringed field for the Czar's
cypher, which has either escaped on it's own or more likely was deliberately removed for use by a Bolshevik during the
Revolution and subsequent Civil War. European style steel scabbard retains 90% nickel finish with very little wear,
lacks only one of the two small screws that holds the throat piece in place. A very intriguing sword! II+
