C141
Original veteran bring back that has been rendered ATF compliant as a non-gun by completely removing the right side
plate from the receiver. Marked on the receiver cover "5580 / M.G. 08/15 / M.A.N. / NURNBERG." The date is
difficult to read due to some pitting just over the last two numbers, but it appears to be 1917. All numbered parts are
matching. In addition to the side plate, the gun lacks the rear sight, internal parts, water jacket plugs and the flash
hider. It still retains the rare drum magazine hanging bracket, trigger and pistol grip assembly, feed block, and the
tripod. This artifact is in 'basement found' near relic condition with moderate to heavy surface oxidation, the wood
stock is cracked and dry. The 08/15 was an important weapon in the development of the assault tactics used by the
Germans in the latter part of the war. This example would be good restoration project and would display well, or as a
source for some hard to find parts. III
$2450
MG08/15 Light Water Cooled Machine Gun
C142
A collection of six different flechettes ranging in length from 12 cm to 25.5 cm and about 8 mm in diameter.
Machined steel or steel and brass projectiles with sharp noses and tail fins. One is marked "D.R.G.M." while another
has a message in French "INVENTION FRANCAIS / FABRICATION ALLEMAND" to remind them that they stated
this! Aviators would dump buckets of these on columns of marching troops and artillery. One quote we found stated
"...
needle-sharp missiles were carried in canisters slung under the fuselage and were released by a trigger located in the
cockpit. Dropped from an altitude of 1500 feet, a flechette could go completely through the body of a horse..."
Some light oxidation and pitting. II

These can range from very simple to quite elaborate - this particular example is one of the nicest that I have seen on
the market in quite some time. 75cm x 103cm (29.5" x 40.5") overall dimensions in a nice 3" wide oak frame; black
silk with very elaborate silk and metallic thread embroidery with thick padded sections, depicting German eagle and an
oriental dragon, with Imperial flags in the background, Kaiserliche Marine ribboned crown, photo panel which
currently houses an image of two men in full dress tuxes on deck, with wreathed depiction of the "S.M.S. ILTIS" below,
flanked by "1912" and "1913", personalized to "FRIEDR SCHELHAS". Has ship's pennant at the top with ribboned
inscription "ZUR ERINNERUNG AN MEIN REISEN / CHINA / JAPAN". The
Iltis
was a gunboat that became famous
for action during the Boxer Rebellion in which she shelled the Taku forts and took heavy casualties in the engagement.
Along with other warships from the East Asia Squadron,
Iltis
was scuttled during the Siege of Tsingtao in November
1914,
to prevent her from falling into Japanese and British hands. Beautiful trapunto from a rather famous ship in the
Kaiser's East Asia Squadron. II+
