Leather-covered album measures about 20.5cm x 28cm has embossed cover that reads, "Log album / U.S.S. SALINAS".
The USS Salinas (AO-19) was a United States Navy Patoka-class oiler, commissioned in 1921. It remained in service
through the end of WWII. The front of the album has several pages for recording log activity, but unfortunately,
nothing is written. Album contains 63 photos with the usual mix of girls, fellow sailors, ports of call, and a few ship
views. Appears that most of the photos were taken in the mid-1930s and 1940s, II

10-1/2"
x 12-1/2" leather bound photograph documents the family life, military service in the Philippines, training at
Camp Funston, Kansas, and post war return to the Philippines of Buffalo solider, Benedict Mosely. The album begins
with 26 images of a tornado devastation in the Philippines on July 4, 1920. Then it goes into about 90+ photos
documenting Troop E, 9th Cavalry at Camp Stotsenburg, PI in the 1920s. This is accompanied by a typed page
recording the soldier's memories of this period in his service. Following this is probably the most compelling images
(50
+) taken earlier and with a different camera, documenting training at Camp Funston, Kansas, of 92nd Division
units with emphasis on the 317th Ammunition Train and the 349th Machine Gun Regiment. The following 70+
images document Mosely's family life in the 1930s leading up to WWII. Almost every image is identified with either a
typed note or handwritten inscription. The album concludes with 30+ pages of newspaper clippings from WWII, most
of which are focused specifically on Adolf Hitler. Leather spine is cracked, and like all albums from this period, the
pages are brittle. Regardless, this is a very rare opportunity to own a record of a Buffalo soldier who served in the 9th
U.S. Cavalry and the 92nd Division! III+

Westinghouse high-pressure composition liner retains 85% olive drab painted finish with scuffs and stains as well as
chalky marks from exposure to other materials in storage. Obverse has red and black painted 34th Division insignia.
Just to the wearer's left of this, there is a 6cm long split in the liner from the brim, working it's way toward the crown.
Interior has light olive web suspension with incorrectly installed sweatband that is nearly torn through on one side.
Lacks the liner chinstrap. Painted insignia conforms in every way to other known period examples with provenance.
Despite the damage, a good example from a unit that did tend to have painted insignias. III

itself. St. Clair company low-pressure molded fiber liner has khaki-olive web suspension with clip-in brown leather
sweatband, nape strap, and removable brown leather liner chinstrap with olive painted cam buckle. Has several places
where the soldier's initial and partial service number are inscribed. Interior of the crown has yellow stamped "SC"
