Khaki web M1907 suspenders have blackened bronze hardware, and "MILLS" cartridge logo on one side of the main
shoulder strap component; the other with large rectangular stamp: "U.S. PROPERTY". Has blackened bronze sliding
keeper at the point of the 'X' on the back. This variation has hooks and grommets securing each of two single
adjustable belt attachment straps on the terminus of the shoulder strap, rather than the sliding arrangement for two
attachment straps on either side. Interesting variant, and the first one of these that we have had at AGM. Shows
normal light wear and soil. II

Interesting use of an incomplete (half) eagle snap Infantry cartridge belt as the suspension for an equipment display:
has left side portion of a M1910 eagle snap Infantry cartridge belt, light olive drab web with rimless eagle snap
fasteners. Suspended from the belt is a very nice M1908 olive drab canvas and web haversack with crisp "U.S." stencil
on the flap and "ROCK ISLAND ARSENAL / 1914" stamp inside; appears to have seen very little if any use. Also
attached is the khaki web triangular canteen suspension strap, attached to a very late issue oblate spheroid canteen - a
very nice example with light olive drab canvas cover marked with "U.S." and "R.I.A. / 1915" date. Canteen has some
stains around the top but remains in good condition. Belt portion has some minor fraying, but would be a decent eagle
snap belt if the other two portions were present. II

Nice collector's display includes M1903/07 pattern dismounted cartridge belt, M1907 combat suspenders, and M1908
haversack. Dismounted pattern nine-pocket cartridge belt has bronze rimless eagle snap fasteners and divided cartridge
pockets, with "MILLS" cartridge logo on the reverse end tabs. Retains excellent strong 'khaki' (actually a brown olive
drab) color. Likewise nice with good strong color, the M1907 combat suspenders in the same color web have undated
"
MILLS" cartridge logo marking. Light olive canvas and web M1908 haversack has black "U.S." stencil, and
(
upside-down for some reason) stenciled unit marking "2 / Infantry / D". Interior has "ROCK ISLAND ARSENAL /
1909"
maker stamp. Like the belt and suspenders, the haversack shows very little use. Nice set! II+

Khaki web suspenders differ from the normal M1903 suspenders with an experimental adjustment feature in the back;
a horizontal adjustable strap and buckle linking the left and right sides of the suspenders at the top of the back, with
the standard blackened bronze sliding keeper at the point where the two suspenders cross. Front has the standard loops
at the terminus of the shoulder straps leading to 'V' shaped double strap attachments on either side. Has blackened
bronze hardware throughout, and undated "MILLS" cartridge logo on one of the straps. Interesting variation, II

Mills Combat Suspenders: Early Experimental Variation

An extremely scarce web belt that was in production for just a year. This one still retains all four revolver cartridge
pockets, though a significant percentage of the M1909 mounted belts that remained in service were modified by
removing the revolver ammunition pockets so that the belt could be used with a magazine carrier for the M1911
automatic pistol. In this case, the only modification is the careful removal of the saber chape, thus turning a mounted
M1909 belt into a dismounted (Infantry) M1909 belt. Olive web belt has nine rifle cartridge pouches and four small
pistol ammunition pockets, all with bronze rimless eagle snap fittings. Rifle cartridge pouches have internal dividers.
Belt has end adjustment tabs stamped with Mills logo and patent data, and Mills cartridge logo stamped on the reverse.
No date stamp is present - likely there never was one, as the Mills stamp is good and strong so it is unlikely that there
was another component which has faded. Fittings all appear to be good and solid, has nice strong color as well. Very
rare belt in nice condition! If the saber Uncle Sam's elves had left the saber chape in place for use as a mounted belt
instead, the price would be nearly double. II+

Model 1902 dark blue wool dress tunic with yellow cord collar, shoulder strap and cuff trim, sergeant's rank chevrons,
worsted chest cord with flat knots and tassels, and brass rimless eagle buttons. Has brass "U.S." and "13 / M" crossed

dark blue wool enlisted dress visor cap with double yellow striped band, black leather visor and chinstrap, and a brass
"13"
over crossed sabers insignia. Lining of black cotton with leather sweatband and paper size label marked "6 3/4."
One or two very small moth holes on the tunic and some light scattered moth tracking on the tunic and cap, does not
detract. The chest cord has a broken button loop, easily repaired, and a spot or two of fraying. A collector's display
card accompanying the uniform provides an oral tradition identification to the group as belonging to a David Peterson
of Roscoe, Illinois, and this name does match the initials in the tunic lending the ID strong plausibility. II
