CATALOG #122 posts THURSDAY March 7
at 3:00 PM US Central Time

Our new catalog will open on Thursday March 7 at 3:00 pm US Central Time.  This is early notice - I will send a reminder notification on 3/6.  Thanks!  We sincerely appreciate your interest and your business.

Remember: to give everybody the best possible chance, we do not sell anything before the catalog opens.  In fact, we remain closed to phone traffic and emails on opening day until the exact moment that the new catalog opens.

So, if it is 3:00 pm in Missouri.. what time is that where you live?
Follow along on the AGM home page countdown clock.

Catalog 122 opens on Thursday March 7 at 3:00 pm US central time.

So, what do you need to know about this issue?
As is our practice, the new stuff will under the very mysteriously titled category NEW LISTINGS.

Everything else that is currently available will be listed in the regular categories.  If you have had your eye on an item that had not yet sold when we closed down #121 to prep the site for #122, it will be there when #122 opens up, but listed in it's native category.

View the Preview from the link which will appear on the home page.  There will be an early preview for Insider Members as usual, in this case one opening at 12:00 pm on March 6.  The preview will be open for everyone on March 7, also at 9:00 am.  The preview link will appear under the big catalog button on the home page.  Depending on your browser, you may need to refresh.  To see the link, you will need to be logged in.  (Not visible to guests.)

During the preview period, we are often still uploading images, finding and correcting errors, reshooting items where necessary, and making other small changes.  If you don't see photos of a particular item, check back later.  Remember: the preview is just that - a preview.  Instead of a "BUY" button, a countdown to the catalog opening is displayed.  A
t 3:00, start from the home page (item pages don't pop up with a buy button at 3, they just reset to the home page.)   Also please note - we do not take calls until the site is open for sales.  If you want to beat your pals to the item you want, the fastest way to do it is to be logged in and press the "buy" button yourself, rather than calling us and asking us to press a the buy button for you.

AGM NEWS & 122 Highlights
We selfishly took some time off in 2023 (first vacation in ages!), but a lot of that time was also spent crafting a new venture that we will be announcing soon.  That one already has an epic tale attached - a trip to pick up a collection that ended up involving hours spent in the rain with some outstanding Delaware State Troopers who helped us to discover that our prospective consignors was not returning phone calls because he had in fact died while we were en route to his residence.  Lots of lessons to be learned from that adventure, some of which we will be sharing on the site later this year.

Reinventing AGM from the ground up is exciting, but we also need to keep the lights on and the collections flowing.. so I decided to take Catalog 122 as an opportunity to remedy the situations where I have failed to live by my own policy "you can't become your own best customer."  Or from pop culture: "Don't get high on your own supply" (Scarface 1983).  In order to keep my own collector's impulse from getting in the way, I have adopted a fairly limited collections policy.  But... I will confess - a number of extremely interesting things come in here and though they aren't necessarily 'kept', they just might hang out for an excessively long time looking great in the office before finally making their way to a catalog.. or not.

There are new aquisitions in this catalog of course, but it is mostly comprised of a surprising number of pieces that I have been hanging on to for years (or decades in several cases!)  This catalog also includes a number of US WWII A-2 flight jackets that do actually fit the collection policy and are pieces I had no plans to sell, but after paying retail+ for several stunning examples recently, the business must be repaid, thus some of the 'keepers' are now available for sale.

We took a very unscientific poll on our Facebook page and found that our customers who follow us there were pretty much equally divided when asked if they would prefer the catalog to open before or after Show of Shows.  We normally release a winter / spring catalog right before (to a chorous of good-natured groans), so this time we will give the 'after' lobbyists their turn.  Here some highlights:
