Excellent new reference - particularly on trench clubs, by our friend David Machnicki. 136 pages, hardbound, and
extensively illustrated with over 500 photos. Field improvised striking weapons and mass-manufactured trench clubs
are discussed. Includes some great period photos of clubs, and whenever a firm ID is possible, David has categorized
them - identifying several patterns that have always been 'mystery' pieces here at our office! Also includes a section
on trench knives, with special emphasis on Austrian pieces. Very limited publication: only 100 were printed, and by
the time I had my copy and realized that we needed to carry these for our customers, he had already sold more than
half of them! We simply purchased the rest. As with his previous book on Austrian bayonets, once they are sold out,
they are gone - no second edition is planned. Copies of 'To The Hilt' sell for over $250 when they surface. (By the
way, we waited too long and missed out on that one entirely, so if anyone is willing to sell their copy, I need one for
the AGM reference library.) The limited print run makes the book rather expensive, but well-worth it, as the first
time you correctly identify a special club or avoid questionable example at a show, the book has paid for itself.
Trench clubs are one of the iconic artifacts of the Great War, and the desire of collectors to have one for their display
far exceeds the available supply of original clubs.. so a bit of knowledge in this area is vitally important.

Among collectors of American militaria, the Francis Bannerman firm is simply legendary. We are privileged to know
individuals who shopped there from the 1940's to the 1960's, and even as the business was in decline, it was nothing
less than a treasure trove. A friend in New Hampshire found a small lot of these original 1889 catalogs. When you
pick one up, even just to move it from one place to another, you cannot help sitting down to read - just a little. This
was a magical time and place where common citizens with a bit of coin in their pocket could order anything from a
brand-new, right out of the factory bundle Civil War artillery shell jacket, to the bronze 6-pounder with carriage,
limber, and implements to go with it. 27 pages, illustrated with Bannerman's iconic line art depictions of the treasures
that awaited, just one trip to the post office from wherever the reader might happen to be!
