clearly visible on their uniforms, "Instructor Staff Observer's School." In our research, we found him stationed at
Eberts Field, Arkansas in October 1918. II

Type I bronze slightly convex disc has large "IP" designation. Pinback reverse. This insignia was authorized on
December 29, 1917. According to Laframboise, the Corps of Intelligence Police was transferred to the Military
Intelligence branch of the Executive Division of the Army General Staff in March, 1918. The "IP" insignia was
abolished entirely in March, 1919. Very scarce disc! II

WWI USMC Enlisted Hat / Helmet EGA Insignia

Nice set from Pvt. Horace N. Weaver who served in the AEF with 2nd Division, 6th Machine Gun Battalion; includes
his painted helmet, engraved and numbered Purple Heart, Victory Medal with five campaign bars, USMC Good
Conduct, ID tags, personal items, etc. His painted British Brodies helmet has 90% smooth olive drab painted finish
with dark purple oval 6th Machine Gun Battalion painted insignia under bronze EGA device. Interior lacks chinstrap,
has felt crown pad and instruction tag, and a previous caretaker has determined to save the loose liner portion by
fixing it to the shell with adhesive. Medals include nice Purple Heart officially engraved "HORACE N. WEAVER" on
the reverse with number on the edge, nice ribbon with early split-brooch suspension. Victory Medal also has nice
ribbon with Aisne, Aisne-Marne, St. Mihiel, Meuse-Argonne, and Defensive Sector bars. His USMC Good Conduct has
nice ribbon, reverse is not engraved. His ID tags are USMC marked, and complete with the original neck cord. Group
includes two Croix-de-Guerre miniature fourragere cords with French bar suspension, several reunion medals and badges,
and a black felt disc printed with white star and Indian head insignia that our friend Dennis Jackson has identified as an
insignia that was given out at the first National Marine Caucus held at the Hotel Pennsylvania in New York City on
June 6, 1923. Other items include his New Testament, USMC rifle scorebook, Muskegon, Michigan VFW sidecap,
service sewing kit, canteen, and mess kit. Good group with research potential. II

WWI USMC 6th Machine Gun Battalion Soldier's Painted Helmet & Medals Group

mm diameter x 6.2mm thick bronze table medal features attractive artwork, with soldier and sailor at port arms
flanking U.S. shield, with eagle and ribbon scroll above "WORLD WAR SERVICE". Below: "In Appreciation to Those
Who Served Freedom's Cause From Orange County, California." Reverse has uninscribed ribbon for personalization,
with "Presented by Orange County War Service Recognition Association. Includes fitted tilt case with velvet base and
silk lined lid; grained exterior covering has large areas where old 'sticky tags' have removed finish. Case is worn but
still greatly enhances the display when open. Medallion is a significant chunk of bronze - one of the largest and most
impressive such local service awards that we have seen. II
